Reading

The children are positively encouraged to take books home. Each child has a reading Record book where you as parents are invited to comment on progress alongside the teacher. Parents are strongly encouraged to read to their child as well as listening to them read. As children progress through the school they will widen their range of reading material, learn to discuss with other pupils character, plot and preferences and read silently. We believe that the development of good reading skills is of paramount importance, and we aim to foster a love of reading in all the children.

Each class has its own selection, or library section, of attractive books. There is also a fantastic School Library from which the children can borrow both fiction and non-fiction books.

We have several different Reading Scheme books, as we feel one approach does not suit all children. Our book banding system is based on the Oxford Reading Tree colour coding and all our reading books are banded against this scheme.
