Year Four

Year Four

Class Teacher - Mrs Marshall
Teaching Assistants - Mrs Stubbs and Miss Kelly

The staff in Year 4 work together as a team to provide the children with a range of exciting and engaging experiences to support their learning. We encourage mutual respect and co-operation, valuing everybody’s opinions and contributions.

We also encourage the children to become more independent, with the hope that they come to school with a positive attitude each day.

We have high, but achievable expectations of the staff and the children and we strive to provide the appropriate support for everyone to achieve their full potential.

We have lots of exciting topics and educational visits planned for this year to broaden the children’s learning.

Our Weekly Routine

Wednesday afternoon will be taught by Mrs Stubbs for RE and RSHE.

Year 4 will join Year 3 on Thursday afternoon for languages.

Reading in Year 4

Children will continue to move through the colour schemed books in school. In each coloured scheme there is a mixture of genres, such as fiction, non-fiction and poetry.  The children will get a book to read at home from one of these colours, but they are also welcome to read books from home. I ask that the children read at least 50 pages a week or 4 times a week at home and that their reading record is signed by an adult. Children who have 4 signed reads in their record, by Friday, are rewarded with dojos points.

Homework and Spelling in Year 4

The homework in Year 4 will be set on Showbie. This will be set on a Friday and will usually be due in the following Thursday. Dates are set and are visible on Showbie. Homework will mostly be linked to English or Maths but will, at times, be linked to our topic work or science. When required, homework will be marked and if needed feedback given. Please encourage your children to revisit and complete any corrections. Alongside this homework is the reading, spelling and times tables.

Spelling will be set on a Friday on Spelling Shed and they will have a test the following Friday. They are always linked to a blend/ pattern or rule linked to spelling. There are various games to play at different levels

TimesTable Rockstars can also be accessed from home. This is a fantastic tool to help the children learn their Times Tables.
